Two original wooden doors of a 16th-century castle were stolen.
The large wooden door of Ballyadams Castle in Co Laois is 8 feet high and 3 feet wide.
They were believed to have been taken away on Saturday morning.
The castle has owned David Butler for about 50 years, but it has been more than 200 years in his family.
The local community, he said, expressed real discontent and described the incident as a \"slap in the face \".
Mr Butler said that he did not know what any one would do to them, and he said that it would take about three people to carry each door, each weighing between 120150kg.
\"People will take wedding photos with this castle. it\'s really disturbing here,\" he said . \"
\"This is the last thing you will ever think of, they will be stolen,\" he added, adding that there have been a lot of thefts in the castle over the years.
Garda said they were investigating the theft that occurred overnight between May 25-26.
