In this simple note, I will show you how I made a shabby chic headboard from an old unwanted cabinet door. Things needed;
Old unwanted wooden door, paint/varnish stripper, legs on the old headboard and some screws.
Duck egg paint and Danish oil are available. Tools needed;
Paint brush, scraper, Sander, screwdriver, eye protection, gloves, respirator.
First, prepare your door.
Remove all the hardware, hinges and handles.
I cut one end in order to make things symmetrical. (see image)
Next, brush on the paint remover (
Always follow the manufacturer\'s instructions, safety comes first when using these things).
I scraped it off once it was bubbling and gave it a quick hose.
The next stage is polishing.
Needless to say, the more time and effort you put in, the better results you will see.
I used an electric sander with 120 sand and then manually polished it with 280 sand.
I also used a small file to make it harder to get to places like inner corners.
With the legs on our old headboards, I measured the distance between them and simply transferred them to our new headboards.
With some of the old paint I kicked in the shed (duck egg blue)
I drew the inner frame slope (see image).
Once it\'s dry, I \'ve done some manual sanding, scraping the surface and giving a shabby and chic feel.
I finished the headboard project with some Danish oil. Good night. . .
